Batmobile Die Cast Display Base

I liked the box that the 1:32 scale Jada Die-cast 1989 Batmobile came in but I didn’t want to keep it displayed in the box so I decided to make my own display base for it that was inspired by the platform that the vehicles sit on inside the Batcave.

For this custom display base, I used a base from a die-cast car I used for The Disappearance (a project for my Media Coursework). I cut a section of wire mesh and superglued it to the base.

Then I applied a coat of grey primer to tie all of the parts together. Once the primer dried, I used some matte black spray paint to tie it with the Batmobile.

I then sanded the paint off the top of the mesh which revealed the metal underneath. I also cut a small strip of aluminium bar which I placed on the inset angled face of the display base. I drilled holes and fixed this in place with pop rivets. I also printed a clear label with the text 1989 Batmobile to give it some visual interest and a museum-style display.

Around the edges of the base, I applied some Citadel Armageddon Dust. Once that had dried, I went over it with a brown wash. I added this texture to represent the walls of the Batcave.
