3D Landscape

I built this from scratch using a sheet of MDF as a base and then placed layers of polystyrene sheet together in a rough shape of the scene I wanted. Once the PVA and Hot glue I held the foam and wood together with had dried, I refined the shape of the hills using mod rock.

After smoothing with water and allowing it to dry. I painted a base colour brown across the whole piece.  After the paint layer. I applied PVA to everywhere I wanted dirt. Then I sprinkled some dirt I found outside and sifted through a wire mesh into a fine soil and a large, coarse soil.

After that I applied another layer of PVA over everywhere I wanted to apply some static grass. Once that had all dried, I used some 2 part clear Epoxy to represent the stream of water. The 2 part epoxy I used was actually designed as an adhesive, not for pouring which is most likely why the end result from that wasn’t as clear as I wanted. I added some small sections of twigs to represent logs flowing through the stream.

I also cut some lengths of wooden dowels and soaked them in a paint, ink, and water wash to add an aged mossy fencepost look. To represent the wire fence I used a small squared wire mesh.

After trialling different ways to add highlights to the water ripples, I was no longer happy with the look of the stream so I carefully removed the stream, reapplied the base paint colour and dirt, and then I mixed and poured some normal 2 part clear epoxy resin that is designed for pouring and casting.
